Hello! I have come out of my hermit hole (or according to the below picture, a fabulous steampunk airship) just long enough to tell you about one of my absolutely favorite stores in SL, Wishbox. The textures in every piece Wisp Jinn makes are just stunning with gorgy craftsmanship. Lucky for Free*Stylers, you can slap the Midnight Mania board for today only and get this adorable pink pirate outfit. Rumor has it from the shop owner that the next Midnight Mania prize will be equally as delish, so be sure to haunt Wishbox like I do.

There's also a hunt prize that you can pick up in store within a little an apple. The prize is this wicked little pixie outfit called "Macabre Tink" that comes with blood overlay, an adorable dress, wings, and flats. Hint...it's in the same room as the Midnight Mania board! I'm not sure how long the hunt prize is available, so don't delay, especially with Halloween not so far from now.

Alas, I was going to show a few pieces from her collection as I think I almost own one of everything, but my pictures were made of fail. In fact, I have a certain photographer to thank for the pretty pictures above.

I tell you this move across the world has knocked me for six, and getting used to the timezone is so bloody hard. I miss all my SL and RL friends that I was so used to seeing every day, however, in some ways it's been good to not socialise as I've been getting all creative and shit in my studio.....ahhh just like the old days :P



Getting creative however means I have a whole lotta catching up to do blogging wise,so may as well start now! You'll find some great yummies in the chair at Dare Designs, "Surprise" being one of them. Total rawr, wild woman stuff........lickable latex on eleventy twelve million layers.



"Aeon" will be released tomorrow, with chair exclusive colours of course, so make sure you're around to stalk it. The gorgeous skins shown are a hunt gift from Kiko Life. It's the Golden Sarcophagus hunt, taken from the official card:

To Reek of Awesome

There's nothing like a great tee shirt. During the work week, I'm always looking forward to getting home and ditching the suit to put on one of my favorite tees. My current fave is a little black tee that proudly states in white letters, "A bottomless pit of wants and needs." I figure this takes the wind out of anyone's sails that wants to get cranky at me. My attitude is, "Hey! I disclosed up front what I'm like!" (Luckily, despite the tee and my 'tude, GG still loves me. I figure he's a keeper! *grin*)

Unless you're seeing some strange rendition of the Beatles in SL, you won't have to worry about being "that guy" (or girl!) with this awesome tee shirt from Reek. All you have to do is head on down to the store in Harold and make overtures to the lucky board in hopes of your letter coming up! Summer Hols

While it's cold, and raining here in Sydney........I will be sunning myself in the back yard in sunny old England. Mmmhhmm, Mini Ash's passport is finally here and I'm booking flights baby! I wanna leave by the weekend, totes not gonna happen, but we will be gone within the next 2 weeks.

Frop!

I'm a bit bleary eyed this morning and stumbling round the grid making epic typos in between work breaks. My bestie is one of those driven types, if she does a hunt, she has to do it all at once and all the way to the end. Needless to say, we make terrible hunting partners as I get very easily distracted by shiny pretty things (read spending money at every store on the hunt stop) and quite often get yelled at: "You can COME BACK HERE LATER" Ahem.



So while I fussed with PS this weekend off she went to do the key hunt, and came back raving about a store called Frop. While I didn't spy her wearing the hunt gift (shown above), I did see her in an awesome pair of shorts.



I was stoked when I found out they were a midnight mania prize. Shown here with the 2 super comfy looking tops that come with them. I also bought a fat pack of shirts with the following written across the boobs: Bitches Are People Too I was told I needed those shirts, can't think why though :P

Controversy for the win.

Alas. As I am in the middle of law school exams and I fear that I will pontificate in legalese if I write too many words words words (mad love for Loli). Pontificate about what, you say? Well...

I think Ash is really brave to stick up for we who spend hours and hours putting together these posts and she makes some great points (see below). To point the mighty finger of blame at freebie bloggers, especially ones who feature full-priced items and make an effort to show off new designers, is just plain silly. This is a multi-faceted, complex issue that many feel strongly about, but FFS...if this blog were doing such a horrible disservice to designers and SL residents, it would be shamed and burned like a witch in Salem. Or designers that steal.

The cold hard fact is yes, unlike a year ago, your average SL resident can get by without spending Lindos and not look like Ruth from the Sims.

Is that a bad thing?

I have no idea. I'm not an economist. I don't have statistical information that could definitively point to a clear answer, but I can tell you that many virtual law experts and economists forecast long-term economic growth in SL with the rapidly expanding citizen population (IM me if you would like a copy of the law journal article I pulled that from). While one designer may suffer because of freebies, another may profit. Why? I'm not sure anyone knows. The concept of the virtual economy is so new and many think it will be as many as 15 years before it's fully realized and understood. Words words words.

There's also the culture of entitlement embraced by the rude, but let's face it. The RL world is full of a-holes - there's no reason why SL wouldn't be full of them too. Like I said and I think most would agree, it's a very, very complex issue. (And, its disappointing to see fingers pointed by those who hold themselves above getting a freebie, snubbing others who enjoy them...even if they never actually buy any of the clothes they blog.)

I'm in the camp that finds a well-crafted design offered for free or at a discount leading to subsequent purchases at the shop that offered it. I've often been completely horrified by how much I spend in SL on clothing and accessories, but it's hard to resist with so many talented designers on the grid.

But getting to my post, and hey...it actually relates to my ramblings above. The Keys to the VIP Gridwide Hunt is an interesting proposition and one I personally found rewarding. To participate, you have to buy a $200L VIP pass and wear it to receive gifts from 50 different designers in SL. After completing the hunt, you receive a VIP pass to the luxury lounge where many of these designers lavished even more freebies as congrats for finishing gifts.

And let me tell you...these aren't the kind of freebies the rude freebie hoars complain loudly about. I've been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the items I've snagged, making the $200L investment a steal now that I have several more pairs of quality shoes, great outfits, goregous skins, fun accessories...and the list goes on. Here's a picture of just a teeny bit of what you can score:

We're standing in the skybox prize from Liquid Candy that comes fully furnished and is mod-tastic. GG did with the hunt with me, but I exhausted him so badly by dragging him through all 50 stores, that he couldn't bear to put anything on or even contemplate looking at his inventory. Poor GG. I wanted to see that nice lingerie set on you!

WALPURGISNACHT!!!

When Dare dropped a folder on me labeled "Walporgis", I was like dood, how the hell do you pronounce it?!! Of course Sasy cracked up, "You don't blog in voice silly!" Point taken but still, I like to know shit :P



The upshot is this: Dare Designs is having a hunt for 48 hours. The prizes are amazing, ranging from clothes, to jewelry, to the most incredible monobike I have ever seen.



I'll copy some of the card to you : WALPURGISNACHT!!! (otherwise known as Beltane for us Pagans...)

It is traditional to celebrate the coming of spring and the renewal of life with fires... bonfires and passion's flames, actually... and to honor this tradition I've laid out a Hunt for the two nights of Walpurgisnacht (48 hours, actually).

There are twelve balefire prizes to find, roughly half hidden in the store(s), the other half spread throughout the sim. Since Walpurgisnacht is Halloween in spring, there's a trick to finding these treats - you'll need to look high and low, watch for secret doors and passages, and check all the spooky corners. The prizes are numbered, though - so you'll know when you've found all 12.

The hunt begins midnight tonight and will end midnight, May 1st. (I may extend it if enough Hunters need the time)

Just so you know what you're looking for - the first balefire prize object is VERY easy to find.

3am, all was not well in the Tomsen household, mainly due to my super loud boinking neighbours, who not only woke me up, but Mini Ash too, grrr. And the grid was broked too, awesome. So I was moaning on Plurk about my Sasybum being MIA and me missing her terribly. Well I found out last night there's a terribly good reason for her not hanging out. Shoes. Awesome sauce ballet flats to be precise. Sasy has a new project on the go, named "Flair".

Firstly, a hearty welcome to all our new guest bloggers, especially Ms Eden who I have pestering for months to start blogging! Now you all can appreciate her razor wit as much as I do, yay!



I'm gonna start things off quite sedately with this gorgeous, classy number from A Piece Of Candy. A store I haven't blogged for ages (shame on me!) You'll find this, some skins and 2 other outfits in the latest subscribo gift.



And here we have "Jazz Baby" from the ever generous Ms Lemania. Shown here with the stunning "Kept" choker I picked up from Sable Rose as part of the massive Twisted Hunt. There's a lock and key version in the folder and both are my new sloves.



And speaking of the Twisted hunt, I thought I'd show a few of my faves. I know it's been all over the feed, but hopefully my faves don't clash with anyone else's!! These silks are from Subtle Submission, and I adore them. They come with the wrist and ankle chains shown, and cover quite a bit more than regular silks, perfect for shyer wearers!



This is the gift from Blueblood, shown with the most amazing hair from Burning Chrome. Apart from the yummy hunt gifts, you'll also find mucho goodness at the main store, and hit up the group too, a little bird tells me there's something waiting for you :P



I love love this dress from Skinzor, shown with incredible stompers from Self Expression. I'm only up to 20 something out of 103 pressies, so far some have been easy to find, others really really hard. Best advice I can give is de prim, take your time and above all have fun with it. If you can't find a gift, move on to the next. There's a list of the stores participating on the blog, and it's not the end of the world if you have to leave a gift till later. Fashionable Relay Challenge!

It's my turn in the Fashionable Relay Challenge that the lovely Sasy Scarborough started up a few days ago. Samsara Barzane created a fabulous look for her part of the challenge, and the rules of the game are that I take one item she rocked out in and wear it here. Of course, this being Free*Style, I found a few good freebies to pair with the item I chose, the /artilleri/ scarf (but in blue & not free).

I first headed to Tuli's hunt on her Journey sim to find some items to pair with the awesome /artilleri/ scarf. One of the prizes to find is her Kalista skin in a makeup especially for the hunt, "Valentine," and I'm wearing the "light" skin tone. I also found this adorable cable knit cropped sweater vest in "Sand" that Tuli made too. It's a great neutral and basic piece that goes with so much.

Then I checked out the massive 50% off sale going on at Sn@tch. Not free, but the deals to be had are too good not to post about! I picked up this thermal and these delicious chocolate cords at such a steal. Rumor has it that some items in the "Cheapie Room" are marked down to $0L during the weekend-long sale!

A few other free items I found to finish off my post for the Relay Challenge that aren't new but are great basics. These light blue Miriel eyes are part of the wearable demos graciously set out in-store, and these Maitreya pumps are a group gift for joining the subscribe-o-matic that Suri recently blogged.

So I woke up at 4am this morn after a sum total of an hours sleep! Hangover ahoy!! Not only was it NYE for me, Q's hubby got back yesterday too FTW!



Anyhoo, logging in at 4am led me to Prim & Pixel for a mini hunt. These silks are your prize, divided up into 5 snowflakes for you to find. They're very well done, and I didn't have to adjust the prims, yay! I hadn't been to this store in a long while, Halloween was the last time I think. This lushness is the Prim & Pixel POE gift, which I stumbled upon during the hunt. Royal Purple is one of my favie colours, never fails to make me smile!

Heaps of you asked about the masked skin Sasy made, so when I found this I was terribly excited! It was a Halloween gift, but it's back out and still free, I don't know how long for though, so best to grab it now.



This powerful piece is from Luna's Boutique, a new to me store that I found through a Fashcon notice. It's another New Years gift, it will vanish on the 2nd I think, possibly sooner? I got so many notices today I'm totes confuzzled.

Oh joy!! I can safely say that school holidays are in full swing, judging by the amount of assholes I've run into in the last 2 days. Anyhoo





On with awesomeness. The scrumptious Fae Eriksen from Fishy Strawberry has put out a couple of gifts for us for the silly season and and and a new lucky chair set! I've shown the top and the shrug from that set, paired with some (not free) jeans I've coveted since seeing them on Dakota, eons ago. They're from Tokeo Plastik, and after Creams and I had been to their latest fashion show (totes not cam perving on the hottest av on the grid, swear) I had to run get em. The beautiful chokers shown are from a store the luffley Eden sent me to, and I'm so glad she did. Sanu has some really special pieces. I fell in love as soon as it rezed. Sanura Sakai is terribly generous to her group, as well as being an amazing designer.





Tinker Hax sent me an IM to let me know that her store Amplify is having a hunt. The clothes shown here are some of what I found. There's 25 candy canes all up, you have to hunt "high and low". The hunt runs all this week so you have plenty of time!



A few months back, I posted about a gorgeous store I had found called Inara's Fantasy Couture. A massive wall of dollarbie silks can still be found there, as well as these stunning dresses you can camp for. The prize camps are a half hour each, so so worth it. Now I'm off to boink my ken doll in our Barbie Dreamhouse. Ash out.
