Bye-Bye Hair Fair 2013 and Bye-Bye Me!

How time flies!  Hair Fair 2013 is in it's last weekend.  I wanted to show you a few more items from the fair including a great gift in the photo below.  Both outfits I am featuring are outfits from Shop Free*Style, which I have not done nearly enough justice in promoting as there are really some wonderful things there for so cheap!  I also wanted to mention but I did not have time to take more shots, is that tomorrow, the closing day of Hair Fair is Bandana Day. Bandana Day is a hair fair tradition and you are to remove your pretty pixel hair and don a bandana in support of the kids that get help from Wigs for Kids, the hair fair charity.  There are some GORGEOUS bandanas to pick up for only 50 L each.  Each sim at Hair Fair has a store just for bandanas.  They are transferable and you can find them for both genders and in a wide variety of styles.  I bought...a lot. Of course, 100% of the proceeds benefit Wigs for Kids.

This is my last post for Free*Style. I've been with the blog since at least 2009; I can't remember the exact month but I've been at it a long time and it's time to move on.  Sileny Noel will remain owner of the blog as well as have control of Shop Free*Style.  Being a part of Free*Style has meant a lot to me, especially all the wonderful people I've met through it.  I've always been a huge clothes horse in SL, endlessly fascinated by the creative process, and blogging has given me a front row seat that I won't forget. It's been a challenging year in RL but I'm still around in SL from time to time and I'm always involved in lots of projects so hopefully I will see you around!  Take good care of the lovely and dedicated folks at Free*Style. Love Donna Flora / Hucci and more Hair Fair

 I didn't do justice yesterday in my post with the gorgeous Hucci group gifts.  Join the subscriber as Eboni Kahn, creator of the Hucci brand, does not skimp on gifts.  This month she included exclusive pieces of two of her new releases.  Above I am wearing the Rouen dress with its bright pop colors.  Today I am showing two non-gift hairs from Hair Fair, both from favorite designers.  The hair above is Andrea from Wasabi Pills; MissAllSunday Lemon makes some of my favorite hair and I adore her textures.

The second group gift from Hucci is the adorable Oulu Romper again in an exclusive color.  The fabulous team over at Deco made the Hivish hair that I sport.  Deco is a store that is not afraid to get out there and they released several designs for men that really special.  There is also a cool dollarbie gift at their booth at Hair Fair 2013

The jewelry I am wearing are from my vast collection of Donna Flora goods.  I first learned about Donna Flora from the Free*Style blog, which I avidly followed way before I joined the team.  Squinternet Larnia, genius behind Donna Flora, always had some fantastic gifts which got me started and left me wanting more. She was one of the first truly elegant designers that I followed, especially her exquisite jewelry.  Squinternet is currently very ill with cancer that has metastasized to her bones.  Some lovely ladies are hosting the Love Donna Flora event that runs July 25th – August 24th to raise funds for alternative therapies and nursing care that she needs to keep fighting the cancer.  About a billion designers have created one of a kind items to help raise funds, items that are often inspired by their love of Squinternet's vast body of work.  The official blog has posts from a myriad of her fans in SL, including one by our very special Teshan Wycliffe, who is an amazing jewelry designer in RL. I was touched by the tributes and took me back to when I got so much inspiration from SL fashion, in which Donna Flora played a major part.  You may also leave a personal message of love and encouragement for Squinternet on the blog.  The sim that is hosting the event has been a bit wonky today so I cannot wait to get over there and begin shopping the event!

PS: I left a donation box for Squinternet at Shop Free*Style. It is on a table near the teleporter on the first floor.

Feeling Free

The owner of The Second Star sent me this top and even though I have been super busy I checked it out and decided I needed to make time to blog it.  I love the pink and blue color combo!  My glasses are a dollarbie from Karacter.  I found them on Marketplace, which is where I do most of my shopping these days. xD

On the not free side of the photo are my skin and hair.  I feel like the combination of the two reminds me a tiny bit of Daenerys Targaryen.  A little bit anyway, haha.

Hair Fair 2103: Nitty Gritty - The Best Gifts (pt 1)

Hair Fair 2013 is in full swing. The big crowds have dissipated and you can easily navigate the 4 sim wide event. The sims have been split into three parcels, each one is using the non visible attributes of SL so that you cannot see people in the other parcels and the buildings are all phantom so that you can slip in through the walls if the entry to one is crowded.  The hair is fantastic this year, especially mesh styles as they are now so fully integrated into our wardrobes. Today I am going to concentrate on what I thought were some of the best gifts (0 - 1 L) at the fair.  There were lots of gifts this year and the quality varied. Some were very current, while others were older styles with old textures and/or flexis, so there is something there for everyone's taste. I spend a lot of money at Hair Fair every year and see gifts as a chance for me to become acquainted with a designer's work and the good ones are worth the search. 

One of my very favorites is Alison from EMO-tions (Sim 1 - Cloud).  It comes in two colors and includes the hairbase.  It's not mesh nor should it be.  The textures are really great.  My necklace, from HANDverk, is a new release for the final round of Zodiac.  The Zodiac version is available in 5 colors at a discounted price of L$150. They are 100 % original mesh and textures (I watched Daphne make them so I can vouch!) making it a steal for a one of a kind item. 

eep's gift for Hair Fair (Sim 3 - Brickness) is a fantastic mesh style that has optional bows that change color.  This style is mesh and the textures and sculpting is impeccable.  It comes only in green but it's a really fun green that I do not see around a lot.  Just on that point, it's a keeper.  My woodland necklace from Deco is currently available at Collabor88.  Deco is another brand that does all it's own sculpting and textures in-house and I'm fussy, so I like that.  I adored Sn@tch's new Pop Violence Bustiers and you get all colors in the size of your choosing.  Love them, Ivey!

Another fantastic mesh gift is Ann from Due (Sim 2 - Port).  It is a two tone pink style that can be worn with both casual and dressy looks.  I just wanted to note that it is rigged and cannot be resized and I did have to adjust my forehead (losing all my brains) and my ear angle but both were easy fixes.  The lovely jewelry set is a Hair Fair gift from Zibska (also on Sim 2).  Zibb Scaggs' gift was so generous and included a full set of eye shadows in addition to the jewelry.  Thank you!  The top is a hunt gift I recently found at Auxillary for the Fist Pump Hunt and comes in both Sky and Copper (really nice! TY Tyr).  Auxillary also gave a very generous clothing gift at Hair Fair (Sim 4 - Harbour) though I've not gotten around to shooting that yet.  My shorts, though you can barely see them are from Sn@tch and are for the Dark Katz hunt. It includes a fat pack of leopard print mesh shorts in all kinds of colors.  Again, Ivey rocks!

Last on my list for today is Janetta from Miamai (Sim 3 - Brickness) .  Janetta is a nice banded ponytail that is to be worn with a hairbase. It comes in 6 colors (both "normal" and "fun" colors) and includes matching hairbases and a HUD to change the color of the hair bands.  Awesome gift - thank you, Monica!  The Gouchi earrings are a gift from Herve Faenzo (also Sim 3), who had some of my favorite hairs at the event.  The oversized earrings include a hud so that you can change both the metal and stone textures.   My outfit, which shown here does nothing to show how awesome it is is part of a two outfit subscriber gift from Hucci. Ebony Khan has been releasing one sexy mesh item after the next lately and the gift includes special colors of her two newest releases.  A tip about the subscriber - you cannot retrieve previously sent items if you are a new subscriber so my advice is to subscribe and do not leave.  You can get recent gifts for a period of time if you are a current subscriber.

Hair Fair is primarily a fundraiser for Wigs for Kids.  It is not a freebie event and I personally spend generously at the event.  Each designer is required to give at least 15% of the proceeds from each sale to Wigs for Kids, though I saw most designers voluntarily donating higher percentages.  Everything you need to know about the charity, store locations, maps, and so forth can be easily found on the official Hair Fair 2013 website.  I've provided the sim location (above) of each gift to get you started.  Enjoy!

Hello all! There is a bunch of events going on, and some about to start, many for good causes and I think we can talk about them all!

First of all, Hair Fair open and after the first week is really calm now and you can go buy everything !

In the next weekend Love Donna Flora will start. Squinternet Larnia , the mastermind behind Donna Flora has cancer, and to help her with her nursery bills. In case Squinternet dies before the end of the event, is her wish to donate the all the money to Relay for Life.

Wassup y'all. It's been a minute, eh? Just dropping in to show you a nearly-free look (everything except the Ikon eyes + the $30L gatcha necklace; more on that below), styled with some recent free cuties yours for the taking, courtesy of recent hunts (fair warning: some are ending very soon!) + 1 of SL's most iconic events, Hair Fair 2013 (hopefully y'all have been catching our own Eden Knoller's excellent coverage of it here on Free*Style). 
If you've been reading Eden's posts, you'll already know that the driving point behind Hair Fair 2013 is to actually spend your $L to assist the well-worthy charity this event is helping, Wigs for Kids (i.e., freebies aren't really the point). That being said, some designers have generously donated some notably nice things for the event, some of which were used to style my casual look today: a free 2-tone hair gift by Due, some free texture-change chandelier earrings + a free slouchy tank by AUX; I styled this all matchy-matchy with a  free owl shoulder bag that you can grab at a lucky boards tote bags bonanza, offering a total of 5 free bags in all. (Btw the Clawtooth Hair Fair 2013 dollarbie here is also very much worth grabbing, easily 1 of the cutest gifts at the event; buy the little brown paper bag on the dresser for $1L).

A word about this skin: if you don't already know the Essences store, skinner Inka Mexicola's skins are on my personal go-to list for her knowing, intelligentsia faces that exude a certain je ne sais quoi. This extremely pretty skin I'm wearing here is yours for free if you simply click the Essences subscribo (note the heavy eyeliner-pen makeup)! Hair Fair 2013: Teasing You!

I needed a good excuse to show you this adorable Hair Fair giftie from Bliensen & MaiTai.  Modern Times comes in 4 fun colors (blue, pink, silver, purple) and is only one of many gifts you will  be able to find at the event, which starts Saturday.  Like all of Plurabelle Lazslo's designs (Bliensen & MaiTai) Modern Times is 100% original and unrigged so you can resize it if needed.  Don't forget to join the Hair Fair Demo Group as tomorrow all demos will be sent to the group archives.  You also might want to bookmark Hair Fair's official website as soon they will be adding maps and designer lists in the next day or so. 

Hair Fair 2013 is a charity event with 15% of ALL sales proceeds benefiting Wigs for Kids, which provides hair replacement systems to children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

Hair Fair 2013: Almost Time for Demos!

Hi everyone!  Hair Fair 2013 is right around the corner. It will run this year from Saturday, July 13 through Sunday, July 28.  Hair Fair has always been my favorite SL shopping event.  This is the 8th year for the charity event and is raising funds again this year for Wigs for Kids.  Last year Hair Fair earned $10,869.59 for the charity and hopes to raise as much, if not more, this year.  Wigs for Kids, which has been around for over 30 years, is a non-profit organization that provides hair replacement systems to children who have lost their hair at no cost to their families. A minimum of 15% of all sales at Hair Fair will go to the charity.  In prior years only a few new releases had a charity script at a much higher level.  The across the board method allows designers to profit considerably more for their new items as well as the charity getting a donation for all sales.  Designers will still be required to release 3 -5 new styles at Hair Fair, so don't fear, there will be  NEW HAIR! Designers are also encouraged, but not required, to provide a dollarbie/gift bag so there should be plenty of goodies, too!

The Hair Fair Committee has worked hard to keep lag to a minimum, allowing the charity script to be the only one used for the event.  In spite of that, anyone who has ever attended knows how laggy it can be as well as jam packed for days.  The best way to prepare for the event is to join the Hair Fair Demo Group, which is free to join.  All demos will be sent via group notices on Friday, July 12.  The link just above will take you to the group's general information so that you can join.  I have also placed a joiner on the first floor of Shop Free*Style on the first floor next to the teleport board.

OK! On to the stuff I'm wearing.  I love the MOCK Cosmetics group. Not only is Mocksoup Graves one of the most generous people I know in SL, her group is a chatty, welcoming group with both seasoned and newer SL'ers, that talks about a myriad of stuff.  SL can sometimes be a lonely place and the L$250 join fee is well worth it for both reasons.  The archives are forever full of gifts from Mocksoup.  Both the shadow and lip color I am wearing are currently in archives.  I don't have as much time as I once did to hunt but I made sure I went to Sassy for the "Art is the Key" Hunt gift, the PopArt mesh dress. with it's bright Mondrian print.  The hair is one of my recent favorites from Wasabi Pills and is featured at July's FaMeshed showcase.
