Yummy Sweaters

Oh my gosh!! I am getting swamped with great freebies now. It's hard to choose which to blog first and my inventory is seriously out of control. Heeelp, I can't find anything!!! I'm so sorry to those of you who send me stuff, it's getting lost and I find it weeks later. Think I need a couple of days off to sort this mess out.

When I received this group notice today about a 1L sweater at Relika, I had to get over there right away...this store is great!

I would so wear this sweater in RL, it's my favourite colour. I love the cowlneck design and the texturing is beautiful.

Relika

I received this hooded sweater from Bronwen at Fluky last week and I've been meaning to do a post on it ever since because it's so adorable. I was starting to get a lil sick of Xmas stuff already, but this is a Xmas sweater with a difference.

Flukey2

If Granny sent me this one, I would be a happy girl, check out the cute pressie tucked in the hood. Also outside the Fluky store are lots of other free goodies including the jeans worn.

Flukey1

*Hair worn in pics is Juliet by Gurl 6 (not usually free, purchased with voucher for av's under 30 days old)

mmmmmm..I believe that chizel me designs was recently busted for stolen skins? That particular skin looks an awful lot like the Alina line from Naughty Designs. :/

Hey there,
I've had a lot of luck with asking designers that have an 'under 30' freebie to let me have it so I can blog it. I haven't had anyone say 'no' yet since they know I'm legit and you are too.

mmmmm. Chisel me designz was not busted for stolen skins. Those are original skins. Go to every skin store in SL and you will see alot of them have similar appearances. The diff is price. You can get a great looking skin from Chisel Me Designz for 150L. While other skin stores sell skins for 1200L to 1800L. I will shop at Chisel Me Designz.

I guess I missed any news about Chisel Me Designz getting busted for stolen skins. Can you reference anything to substantiate that please?

I don't know if Dakota Nicholls has been accused of theft in the past, but that IS the Naughty Alina skin, I own the Alina skin so I joined the group to compare the 2 skins.

The Chisel Me "designer" has ripped Lost's skins, and made a few sloppy changes to the makeup. I am happy to provide pictures comparing the skins on my Flickr account if people want proof, but I think the pictures posted here are more than sufficient evidence for those who know Lost's work. I've notified Naughty about this so they can take the necessary legal action. I observed in the Chisel Me store that there were posters of Amby's skins with the logo "Coming Soon". There is also a ripped male Naughty skin in the store. Another male skin which looks familiar too, but who the designer is, I'm not sure. Skin designers, please drop by this store to make sure your work hasn't been stolen too.

And Dakota (Anonymous 18:01 perhaps?), your profile states "High Quality Items at low prices. We beat the competition!" Well that is certainly easy enough to do when you STEAL from the competition! Shame on you.

Creamy, it would be great if you could remove the skin pictures and the link to the store from this post. I know you didn't realise these skins were stolen, but I'm sure you don't want this thief to drum up any business as a result of this post.

Sadly I see alot of BS here, your claiming theft but your not doing anything about make a claim with DMCA this is the truth they aren't stolen they are cheap and nice as hell. thats ur prob its the same thing Black opts does with all other guns makes false claims that all others are laggy and crappy scriptedits a way to control the business. So stop s[reading lies and get your shit together your mad cause shes not trying to make a living off of people in a game and selling really nice stuff for cheap ass prices and I haev skins that look exactly alike from diff people only thing is the price one was 3000L and the other was 1500L your mad cause shes not trying to steal from people like you.BTW I asked her for copies of her psd files there are many layers you cant steal layers take it to court but you wont cause you knwo your a lier........ This is Dakota Nicholls response:
Report to the DMCA and I will fight this in RL court. These are MY skins! Any similarity to any skins in SL is all that is: SIMILARITY. I have all the proof that the skins in my store are ALL MY Creations. So yes please report it and I will see any SL skin designer in RL Court. Bring your PROOF That these skins are stolen! I guess if I placed my prices HIGH and be GREEDY with my creations I wouldnt be shot down by these accusations. But, I am not in it for the money, I enjoy making skins and make lil people like myself look great in SL by selling affordable skins. I dont see any other high cost skin designer giving away free skins, or lowering their prices. Selling a Skin over 1000 is outrageous in my opinion. But each opinion to their own. So bring it....I be waiting.

Stephanie Misfit said...

Oh absolutely, it would be completely ludicrous to sell a skin for over 1K if you stole it. After all, it isn't your intellectual property, nor did you spend hours and hours slaving over it. And I agree, there is absolutely no loss to you to give away something you stole from somebody else. Only damage to a business that somebody else has poured their heart and soul into. SO generous of you to give so freely to the community like that.

And it won't be me filing a DMCA, only the REAL designer can do that. Good luck, you will need it.

Like I said:
"Guess if I placed my prices HIGH and be GREEDY with my creations I wouldnt be shot down by these accusations."
You dont know me nor do you know the TRUTH, you can only ASSUME.
and hun I dont need Luck, Its FACTS that will win in RL court.
and I got all the FACTS with me. People do not worry this convo will not make me change my prices HIGH just to fit into the HIGH & MIGHTY crowd. My creations have taken me months and dont think that I am new to SL, I have been playing and creating in SL since 2004. I like and enjoy helping newcomers in SL, that is WHY my prices are low. Asking someone to remove my blog is just self-fish all because you dont like my skins...or you CANT MAKE skins yourself so you be hatin. Again, I will be waiting. Have a nice SL, I know I will. :)

sadly yours or anyones attempt to make people do what you want them to do by crying thief isn't going to work with us. We both are ready to go to court let them file DMCA We are here waiting, hoping, praying cause when its all said and done we will still be here and blogging the outcome on whatever site would love to see it cause it will in our favor. your trying to ruin her for the prices its not theft its the prices you cant stand it and it pisses you off we both make our money in RL not in game sorry your so uneducated you cant get a real job hmmmmm are you hiding from the law is that why you have to rely on a game? hmmmm see we both can come up with some bs huh

As soon as I saw the skin I thought it looked just like the Alina skins from Naughty Designs.

So I went and bought a demo of Alina and I picked up this Chisel skin and I took snapshots of them to compare.

The makeup, areolas, and pubic hair are different, and 2 tiny spots on the belly are not there in the Chisel version. Everything else is identical.

Go here to see the pics I took: http://www.geocities.com/istatha/

They show nipples so be warned.

Of course, instead of taking my work for it, you can compare the 2 skins yourself.

Some skin sellers might not know that they are selling a stolen skin. Sometimes people buy full perm skin textures without knowing that those textures are in fact ripped off. Then they make some minor changes like adding makeup, and sell it as their own work.

On the other hand, sometimes the skin sellers rip off the skins themselves and they know exactly what they are doing.

I'm not going to speculate on how this happened, but they are obviously the same.

Catero said...

I've been to the store and as far as several skins looked less than six degrees of separation from Celestial Studios, Naughty Designs, Nomine, The Good Life and X2:Exotica products. Too close for comfort.

Ultimately, it's up to the designers attached to those brands to decide for themselves whether their skins have been stolen and to act accordingly. In this case I hope all the designers you've stolen from file DMCAs against you, Dakota.

IMO, you're caught. You know it. You stole them. Most designers have skins products that have a similar feel (hand-drawn, hybrid, photoreal) that reflect their artistic values. Yours do not. They lack the emotional signature of the creator. They're all over the place. And they're far from original on your part.

As for skins being too expensive: if you want something you suck it up and buy it. There are plenty of low and mid-range priced skin in SL. Stick to your budget and don't live above your SL means. Something being beyond your means doesn't justify stealing. Live without it.

And let's not forget to mention the opportunities for free designer skins/products that Creamy and other blog contributors here bring to the attention of the masses.

Thanks, Creamy.

Stephanie Misfit said...

You wanted proof? This is just the face, I don't think I need to bother providing body shots to show how you made slight changes to the nipples. Adding some makeup to somebody else's skin does NOT mean you made it.

Holy Shiat! Just logged on this.

My main Avi has an original Naughty Alina skin in a different makeup, her shape is also very different to Creamy's so when I tried this Chisel skin on I didn't see any similarity. If I had suspected any wrong doing I would never have featured it in my blog. I made sure to check that Dakota was the creator before the post and that was really all I could go by at the time.

My suspicions were seriously aroused when Kie mentioned this to me in-game. I visited the store and took a proper look around, when I saw the other makeup designs there was a skin very similar to the Alina skin I have. Therefore I will retake these pictures with a different skin because I do not want to be associated with this.

My suggestion to genuine skin designers is until SL can sort out this issue with content theft, why not give away one of your skins? (I know a lot of designers already do).
Then people won't want the poor imitations.

Stephanie Misfit said...

Definitely did not think for a minute that you were aware these skins were stolen Creamy, and I certainly appreciate the work you do in finding high quality freebies and presenting them so attractively on your site.

I do think it would be beneficial if these comments were left as is; it will probably be of great assistance to the creators whose work has been stolen, and also help alert other designers to these thieves. If I sold skins, I would certainly be banning this pair from my store.

Creamy Cooljoke said...

Thanks for alerting me to this everyone!

I have removed the references to the skin and the full body shots. I have decided to leave the remaining pics and the comments here so people will know what to look out for.

Dakota, you obviously have some talent with PS so why not make your own skins from scratch?

Hello,
I just wanted to ask if u can blog about free ao's :)

Creamy Cooljoke said...

Thanks for your suggestion, I have thought about blogging free AO's.

To be honest, I haven't come across many great free or cheap AO's worthy of a mention yet (apart from the most hilarious one from Happy Dispatch which makes you do the moonwalk everywhere), it seems you pay for what you get when it comes to AO's. If someone knows of a good one I'd be happy to check it out.

You know it makes you wonder if people can get copies of skins that look exactly like the real thing and have full perms, What makes people think they wont steal ALL the designers skins and place them on freebie land? Plus you have to give out your Real Life information when you file a DMCA report and there is no telling who these people are. The Skin Designers in SL have alot to consider, SL is a doggie dog dog world. Keep up the good job Creamy!

Anonymous said...

Wow, I had filled out their newbie voucher but I will delete it if I get it. Those pictures that I could mouse over were very telling.

Anonymous said...

Just a quick note of appreciation to everyone who stepped forward to provide evidence, clarifying this situation in my mind. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Does it really matter where these skins come from? What wins over everything is the Linden dollar.

Anonymous said...

wowzas, hot topic. the skins really do look similar sure, but i really don't think it's cool or fair to keep saying, "the skins you stole" "stolen designs" etc... until someone (legal people in RL) decide they are in fact stolen. speculation and raising awareness of a possible crime is one thing, but blatantly calling someone a thief in a public forum just makes everyone look ugly (skin pun intended). let the designers fight it out.

ps...creamy you are the bestest!

Anonymous said...

I actually told Creamy about a very similar skin to this called "Naturaly" which I got months ago from freebie beach(I think). I'm not familiar with the Naughty Designs skins, but it looks like this might not be the first time they've been ripped off (I'm now assuming the skin I have is also a rip-off, considering where I found it).

willow - it may not matter to an *individual* shopper where a cheap skin has come from, but if (most) content creators weren't financially compensated for their work, they would simply stop making things.

I rarely spend money in SL - I've spent about $L1100 ($5.50 AUD) - in the 4 months I've been in SL (which got me a TaP skin, boots from Shiny Things, and a Tuli outfit - in RL I've spent more than that in a day buying coffee).

Like most people, I'll gladly take all the high quality freebies I can get in SL, but if I'm going to spend any money at all, I think the people who put hours into designing these products deserve some appreciation. For the equivilant of 1-2 RL dollars, I've bought items that I think are among the best quality in SL, and the creators have gotten that small amount of recognition for the time (and money) that they've put into their products and marketing.

Tuli has given out more than 1000L of high quality clothes and at least 2 nice skins in the last month or so. Considering that I've loved and continue to wear almost everything that she's been generous enough to give out for free, spending 200L at her shop to get another great outfit was the least I could do. For that outfit, I'd rather give her 200L than give even 1L to someone who'd ripped her off.

Stephanie Misfit said...

selest, I certainly agree that it would be grossly unfair to call someone out as a thief without anything to back that up. But if you will look at the comparison pictures posted by people here who own both skins, you will see that these are not just similar skins, they are IDENTICAL (other than the slightly butchered changes to the makeup). There is NO question that Dakota Nicholls stole skins from Lost and god knows who else, and it doesn't take a member of the legal profession to make that determination. I have no issue calling these people thieves to their faces, and to expose them as such to the affected designers and the consumers who may risk purchasing this stolen merchandise. I can assure you that the designers will take action themselves, but in the meantime why should this thief be allowed to continue to profit off other people's hard work?

And given the rude and blatantly dishonest statements made by the thief that she created these skins and will take legal action against the genuine creators, she clearly show NO remorse or respect for the genuine creators. I am guessing she is just one of those pathetic souls who is so jealous of the success of others that she cannot help but try to sabotage their hard work. Alas, Lost and Amby are all too frequently targeted in this manner and I am getting sick of seeing it. If the community does not stand up for the content creators who work so hard to provide us with products we enjoy (and zOMG, PAY FOR!) we may well lose them altogether.

And as several people have pointed out already, the increasing availability of high quality free content in SL means there is no excuse for stealing because you cannot afford to buy something. Blogs such as this one are doing a very fine job of ensuring that even those of us who cannot afford to spend our RL money in SL can still enjoy a lot of great stuff.

This is giving the store everyone in this blog appearently doesn't like free advertising. I do see from the pictures Istatha posted on a free website the skins do look alike. (yea I can only afford the demos too from Naughty, Istatha) Tough decision. Go to Naughty and spend 1600 on a skin or go to Chisel and spend 150. I keep reading you all say the designers should be paid for their services cause they designed it. How long has Naughty been in SL? How many people have paid for just one of their skins? I mean come on, they can afford their own sim from the profits they are making from a skin they uploaded for just 30L. I understand it takes TIME and HARD WORK to create a skin. But, they have been compensated for creating that skin 100 folds or more. You dont need a sim in SL to show you are successful. Stop making that sim monthly payment and you can afford more things in RL. Naughty appearently have pissed a bunch of people off cause their skins are in ALOT of stores not just this one. Why don't you post their store names so we can go buy skins from them too.
*puts on a wig, dark shades and runs to the cheaper store*

I have to comment on this line Stephanie Misfit said:
"If the community does not stand up for the content creators who work so hard to provide us with products we enjoy (and zOMG, PAY FOR!) we may well lose them altogether."
No we won't Stephanie, cause Naughty skins are everywhere.
SL will never lose the content. LOL!

stephanie i agree completely with your points about content theft, and because of this blog and others like it i doubt she/he will be able to continue selling skins that are allegedly stolen for long.

awareness is one thing but i was trying to say that speculation (and that's all it is at this point because as much as we think they're the same, and they very well might be the same, and wow they really really do look the same to me too...we just do not 100% know for sure) should not be turned into a guilty verdict automatically.

don't misunderstand: i'm not saying the designer is innocent here. i'm just not assuming they're guilty.

you can see how quickly action was taken just by making people aware of this one situation, i don't think we need to worry about losing our favorite designers. reputation means a lot in rl and sl.

if this skin designer in question continues to sell a few skins during this developing query there's nothing we can do about it. we can just be happy knowing that Lost is selling more.

hmmm...maybe a blog about suspected counterfeit skins and clothes isn't a bad idea after all. consumer awareness is key.

love all you fashionistas!

You might want to go to Chizel again and compare, there is not only the Aline line from Naughty Designs there, but also the old line before the Vogue one from Celestial Studios... funny thing, creator is under a different name

Thanks Kristy, I'll go check it out. These guys really have a brass neck. I bet they are the type of people who let their dog shit in the street because they are too lazy and selfish to pick it up.

(You can tell I had a bad 'stepping in dog shit' experience today)
